I wonder how Matt did on his math test? When is the tile-guy coming back to finish the guest bath?

I really must banish these thoughts during our romantic getaway if I’m gonna enjoy it. At the very least, for the next hour while the massage therapist works the stress out of my shoulders.

Biking and picnicking in the vineyards

California Wine Country Lunch Planning - Booker and Butler ConciergesDay one of our wine country weekend couldn’t have started any better. We’ve been pedaling from one winery to the next, stopping in between for a picnic in the vineyards. What a great way to see the countryside, sip and spit wines and get some exercise to boot. The hot stone treatment we booked for 4pm will be the perfect conclusion to a day of biking. We won’t even have to leave the house. Talk about full service!

Saturday we are sitting poolside at our Napa vacation rental and my biggest dilemma is: Do I want my margarita frozen or on the rocks?  I guess at some point I’ll need to pry myself from this lounge chair to go shower for the dinner that’s being prepared by a private chef that our concierge lined up.

It’s Sunday morning and we are fully rested and ready for adventure when our driver honks to take us to Chappellet. The property is enormous — 640 acres — which we survey from the back of a way cool 4×4 Austrian troop-mover called a Pinzgauer.

With a glass of Cabernet in our hands, we bounce through boulder-strewn vineyards to a shaded picnic area surrounded by vines. Then we dart up a hill to a tented tree house that can seat eight for dinner. Think “Out of Africa.” Dreamy.

Our last stop is a gorgeous meadow overlooking Lake Hennessey, where the staff is setting up for a private event. The views are spectacular. I’d love to be here for sunset but we’ve got dinner in downtown Napa and a show at the retro Uptown Theater before returning home bright and early . . . to Matt and the tile-guy and whatever else we missed this weekend.

I can’t even think about that until then!
